#S94 Transforming waste and refuses to energy in shipping especially in cruise shipping (W2E in Cruise Shipping)

Policy Area Ship – Becoming a model region for clean shipping

The main project idea is to use waste generated on ships and especially cruise ships to produce energy. This would reduce energy needed for processing and storing the waste and at the same time use the waste as energy source on-shore or on board (which would make cruise ships more self-reliant in relation to energy). So far there have not been projects combining waste to energy technologies with shipping. The technologies for this kind of energy production exist, though. Therefore, the seed project will study the feasibility to use them on-board (or at the ports) and promote this solution to stakeholders (among others ports, cruise shipping companies, authorities, or waste management sector).
