#S93 Cooperative models for business transfers to ensure growth and survival of innovative companies and entrepreneurs (COMBESTE)

Policy Area Innovation – Exploiting the full potential of the region in research, innovation and SME, utilising the Digital Single Market as a source for attracting talents and investments

SMEs are mostly managed by the owner and therefore risk to loose knowledge and jobs, once the owner retires. Many SMEs in the Baltic Sea region face the likelihood of winding up unless an appropriate successor can be found for their ageing owners. The majority of projects and measures focus on the creation of new innovative firms, while the challenge of keeping innovative firms running successfully is not yet covered. The transition of ownership of companies plays an essential role. The main project idea addresses this gap. The main objective of the project is to improve the environment for transferring businesses to employees or workers organised in cooperative form and to raise awareness about the benefits of such a cooperative model in the Baltic Sea region.
