#S61 Strategies for sustainable communal waste water management in the Baltic Sea Region (SUWMAB)

Priority Area Nutri - Reducing nutrient inputs to the sea to acceptable levels

The main project will contribute to the EUSBSR PA Nutri by counteracting eutrophication, which is particularly acute in the southern and eastern parts of the Baltic Sea. It will promote cost-efficient nutrient removal and sustainable sludge handling in urban waste-water treatment plants and in small-scale waste-water treatment. It will focus on municipal waste water on areas with low population density, since there is significant potential to reduce nutrient loads by proper treatment of waste water and by reducing occasional and seasonal bypasses.
