#S33 Geopositional early warning system integration for marine oil spills recognition in the Baltic Sea (GEOILWATCH)

PA Safe – To become a leading region in maritime safety and security

The overall aim of the main project is to research an innovative observation data management system to improve situational awareness and to create an operational picture on oil spills in the Baltic Sea Region.

The main objectives of the GEOILWATCH project are:

  1. To provide a reliable information for the monitoring of oil spills pollution and shipping from the different sources;
  2. To connect through a single transmission network data coming from various sensors and sources (“data fusion”);
  3. To analyse and process such data;
  4. To assess the existing information and to develop the single data interface for SeaTrack web oil spill monitoring platform;
  5. To provide an operational picture for oil spill combating.

It is planned that the joint surveillance tool will include existing coastal radars, an Automatic Identification System (AIS), Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS), Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT), earth observation satellites and maritime patrol, in the Baltic Sea region.
