#S15 Sustainable recovery and recycling of nutrients – safety and efficacy (CircuNuts)

Priority Area Agri – Reinforcing sustainability of agriculture, forestry and fisheries

The main project aims to effectively improve the nutrient recirculation in the BSR, thus hindering the accumulation of nutrients into the environment and agricultural soils, and reducing the need for imported nutrients. The project especially looks for solutions on how to recover phosphorus and nitrogen from sources such as manure, sewage sludge and organic household waste, which would both mitigate eutrophication and reduce the EU and BSR dependence on imports, especially of phosphorus which is a limited resource. To this end, the project seeks to establish an integrated waste management approach, combining the agricultural and sanitation sectors.

The project is closely linked to Priority Areas NUTRI, INNOVATION and HAZARD.
